According to medical analysis, there is a chemical compound xanthine in the coffee. These compounds include caffeine, theophylline, and theobromine. However, coffee only contains caffeine, while theophylline contained in tea, while theobromine in chocolate.
According to several studies so far, with xanthine chemical compounds, coffee has several benefits, ranging from reduce the risk of cancer to sharpen memory. So, coffee is not just a drink. In fact, drinking coffee can reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease and dementia as well. As stated from results of research conducted in Finland and Sweden.
The people in middle age who drink coffee 3 (three) to 5 (five) cups a day may reduce the risk of dementia and Alzheimer's disease between 60 and 5% of their lives, it said by Miia Kivipelto, researcher, a professor at University of Kuopio Filandia at the Karolinska Institute Stockholm Sweden.
Research which conducted in cooperation with Public Health Institute in Helsinki and has been published in the Journal of Alzheimer's disease, based on interviews with 1409 people in Finland more than 2 decades.
They were asked about their coffee drinking habits at age 50 and their memory ability in a test in 1998 when they were age between 65 and 79 years. It is possible that drinking coffee can improve memory. But this is still the first study of dementia and Alzheimer's and will continue in the long term.
Actually still not known yet how large the effects of drinking coffee on prevention of dementia, but it stressed that coffee has a strong antioxidant, which is known to inhibit Alzheimer.
Other studies also show that drinking coffee may protect the nervous system that can also fight against dementia. Mentioned in previous studies that coffee may protect against diabetes, which in turn linked to Alzheimer.
Subsequent research should be focused on to find out certain elements in coffee which become protective factors. But it turns out there is other research that says that drinking coffee can cause hallucinations, if too much to consume.
